Australian cricketer Shane Watson is a supporter of Motor Neuron Disease research, and has pledged to donate $200 for every four he scores at the tournament, $300 for every six and $300 for each wicket.
As strong supporters of the MND cause, we’re concerned that this may not flood the research coffers with cash. Cricket is a funny game you know.
The Diary of the 17th Man offers some suggestions for others who might contribute:
AB de Villiers. $100 for every time he gets asked what AB stands for.
Joe Root. $50 for every time he gets asked for ID when entering an Australian pub
Piers Morgan. $0.50c for every pro-Kevin Pietersen tweet. Don’t be concerned about the low amount, this would be a huge money spinner.
Cricket journalists. $50 for every time “South Africa” and “choke” appear in the same article
Chris Gayle. We’ll take $300 for every 6 he hits, thanks very much. Come on McCullum, man up!
Dan Vitorri. $200 per catch, currently in the lead.
Steve Finn. $50 per six conceded as a bowler.
Virat Kholi. $250 for every beard trim received.
Michael Clarke. $300 for every visit to the physio.
Umpires. $100 per decision overturned by DRS.
Steve Smith. $0.02c for every fidget at the crease. Any more would bankrupt him.
Any more to add? That’s what comments are for!
